Health, Hygiene & Sanitation

A gradual shift in the mindsets of villagers through awareness in health, hygiene and sanitation processes

Umaidpur being a small village tucked away in a corner seriously lacked the basic infrastructure and awareness as regards to health, hygiene and sanitation. Villagers were generally ignorant about the pre-requisites of cleanliness procedures and systems. The village had an open drainage system, which caused regular outbreaks of contagious diseases which increased during the monsoons. The sewage, without proper drainage systems, used to be dumped near the roads or in backyards of houses causing stench and spreading diseases.

Populace was also not aware about the necessary vaccinations for children and pregnant women.

Limited medical facilities in the village forced villagers, especially elderly people, to travel to Patna to avail certain medical treatments and surgeries.
